Nancy Baxter Skidmore, 69, of Guntersville, passed away on April 6, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 5, 1951m to Lloyd and Jenny Lou Baxter in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
Nancy was an educator, earning a bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University and a master’s degree from UAH. She started teaching 4th grade at Claysville School and later became a librarian. She was Educator of the Year in 1997.
Nancy loved reading and shared that passion with her students. She was always up for an adventure and enjoyed traveling with family and friends. The beach and the mountains were here favorite destinations. More than anything, Nancy loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Nancy was a member of the Guntersville Church of Christ for 40 years. She was a member of Lady Civitans and instrumental in raising money for Every Child’s Playground.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Harold Skidmore; sons, Brent Skidmore (Lori) and Kevin Skidmore (Jill); grandchildren, Sarah Nan, Hudson, Turner, Oliver, and Millie; and brother, David Baxter.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Betty Buchanan and Joyce Petty; and brother, Lloyd Baxter.
The funeral service was Thursday, April 8, at the Guntersville Church of Christ with Bro. Phillip Bradley officiating. Interment was at Guntersville City Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Crafton, Michael Crafton, Ray Jenkins, Rip Baxter, Jason Skidmore and Trevor Lockhart.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heartlite Hospice, Church of Christ (Benevolence House) or GFUMC (Little Lights Special Needs ministry).
