Nellie "Nell" P. Helton was born July 31, 1935 to William "Bud" Russell and Bertha Wells Russell of Jackson County, Alabama. She passed on March 22, 2022.
She met her future soul mate, Charles "Bill" Helton, at the tender age of 13 years old. However, her mother made them wait until she was 20 to tie the knot.
They moved to Marshall County where they settled and had two daughters, the late Kathy Helton and Kelley Helton of Huntsville.
She preferred to be a stay at home mom, but, she did work several years at H.D. Lee and Claysville Jr. High School.
A founding member of Pine Island Baptist Church, she enjoyed church, singing, and entertaining friends and family.
He hobbies included yard sales, thrifting, classic TV, talking on the phone and reading the Advertiser-Gleam.
She was proud of her family's accomplishments and loved to attend their ballgames when she was still able. In her later life, she watched them on TV. She also loved keeping her kids and grand and great grand children.
She was preceded in death by her parents William Harvey "Bud" Russell and Bertha Lee Wells Russell; her husband of 60 years, Charles Henry "Bill" Helton; her daughter Kathy Lavon Helton; sisters Shirley Smart, Alice Russell and Augusta Wynn; and brothers William "Bruce" Russell and George T. "Bodie" Russell.
She is survived by a daughter Kelly Helton; adopted daughter Kathleen Miller; granddaughter Misty (Randy) Bannister; adopted granddaughter Hope Acreman; grandson Charles Shannon (Sherrie) Helton and great grandchildren Kaitlyn (Len) Bannister and their daughter Rhaelyn Jo Strong; Charles Austin (Lucy) Helton and their son Charles Carter Helton;special niece and her spouse Pamela and Harlan Higginbotham.; great grandchildren Kaitlyn (Levi) Bannister and their daughter Rhaelyn Jo Strong, and Brayde Bannister.

Services were Friday, March 25, at Guntersville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Joe David Moore officiating. Burial was at Old Prospect Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Randy Bannister, Brayde Bannister, Stephen Helton. Levi Strong. Austin Helton and Joe David Moore. Honorary pallbearer was Donald Taylor.
