Ray Dwight Martin, a lifelong resident of Grant, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Huntsville Hospital. Mr. Martin was 70 years old.
Visitation for Mr. Ray Martin will be held on Saturday, January 16, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Grant Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Anthony Barnes officiating. Interment will be in Panquin Cemetery.
Mr. Martin worked for Huntsville Manufacturing as assistant manager for years until it closed. He then moved to Kingsport, Tenn., where he worked as manager of J.P. Stephens, a textile mill. Upon retirement, he moved back home to Grant to be closer to his parents and other family.
In his younger years, he enjoyed driving a race car at Huntsville Speedway. He liked camping and fishing.
Family and friends were everything to him.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Phyllis Gene Martin; daughter, Chasity Faith Martin; sons, Ray Dwight Martin, Jr. and William Roderick Martin; baby sister, Shelia Faye Martin; special sister, Gail Henson; special brother, Nicky Martin; special longtime friend, Mr. Jess Roop; grandsons, Joshua Tanner Vaughn, Joshua Ray Martin, Austin James Martin, William-Allen Cole Martin; and many nieces, cousins and nephews whom he loved all dearly.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Willie R. (Bill) Martin and Dicie Pence Martin; a sister, Janese Sharon Watson; a daughter, Madison Danyelle Martin; and a son in law, Joshua Zeb Vaughn.
