Steve Buckelew

Steven Lynn Buckelew of Guntersville, Alabama, went to be with his Heavenly Father on May 8, 2023.

Steve married the love of his life Lori Noreen Buckelew on November 2, 2002, in Huntsville, Alabama. Steve and Lori lived in Huntsville until moving to Guntersville in September 2022 where Steve retired for life on the river. Steve enjoyed camping, his grandchildren, wood working, and spending as much time as he could with all his beloved family. Steve would always have a joke ready for anyone to brighten their day.

Steve was a member of Gracepointe Baptist Church in Huntsville. He loved to sing and gather with his church friends.

Steve was born January 10, 1962, in Brunswick, Georgia to Richard L. Buckelew and Betty Culver Buckelew of Guntersville, Alabama. He graduated from Arab High School in 1980 and then attended Auburn University and then Columbia University studying engineering. He was a property administrator supporting the U.S. Army for the last 20 years until retiring in October 2022.

Steve is preceded in death by his mother Betty Culver Buckelew. He is survived by his wife, Lori Buckelew; his father Richard Buckelew; sons Rick Janowitz (wife Brianna) and Andrew Janowitz (wife Shelley), grandchildren Andy Janowitz, Jadyn Janowitz, Haize Janowitz, Kendal Christian; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he loved dearly with all his heart.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 14, 2023, in Guntersville Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bobby Gordon officiating. A graveside service will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
