Thomas C. (Tommy) Mason died peacefully at his home Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, almost five years after suffering a massive stroke. He was 67.
A native of Guntersville, he graduated from Guntersville High School in the class of 1971. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Alabama in 1976.
He was a corporate controller for three large local companies from 1976-1994 and during some of that time was a part-time accounting instructor at Snead State Community College. In 1994, he changed careers and found his dream job as a stockbroker and investment advisor.
Over the years, he advised hundreds of clients. He loved to hunt and fish and visit with friends, but his biggest passion was watching Alabama football. Saturdays in the fall could find him watching games in his special room dedicated to the Crimson Tide.
Passionate about life in general, he also liked coaching his daughter's softball team when she was young and cheering for the Guntersville Wildcat football team. A lifelong member of Guntersville First Baptist Church, he was a member of the men's Sunday School class.
He and his wife, the former Carolyn Hawkins of Union Grove, were married there in 1975. His parents were the late Johnnie and Chessie Mason of Guntersville.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a daughter, Rachel Ann Mason. His daughter Abigail Ruth passed away unexpectedly in 2016. He also leaves a sister, Sherry Warren of Boaz, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service was held at the City Cemetery Thursday. Pallbearers were Larry Morris, John Woodall, TR Roberts, Bill Waddell, Lynn Selvage and Edwin Mason.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shepherd's Cove Hospice of Marshall County or First Baptist Church's Challenge to Grow Fund or a charity of one's choice.
