To the Advertiser-Gleam:
Monday is Confederate Memorial Day, a legal holiday in both Marshall County and the State of Alabama.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) are the direct heirs of the United Confederate Veterans, and the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers who personified the best qualities in America by taking a stand for the preservation of Constitutional liberty and freedom.
Organized in Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic, educational, fraternal, benevolent, non-political, non-racial, and non-sectarian organization dedicated to ensuring that a true history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved.
SCV neither embraces, nor espouses acts or ideologies of racial and/or religious bigotry, and further condemns the misuse of its sacred symbols and flags in the conduct of same.
With the Guntersville camp being originally chartered on October 31, 1903, in Jackson, Mississippi, the Captain John Rayburn SCV Camp 452 of Guntersville is proud to keep alive the memory of Confederate veterans in Marshall County for the past 118 years.
In this time in our history, it is more important than ever for us to continue our efforts to preserve Southern culture, monuments, grave sites, and artifacts. If you are a direct descendant of a Confederate veteran, we welcome you to join SCV. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
