The DAR Patriots began the new year with a 78-46 win over the Woodville Panthers last Thursday in Grant. The next night, the Patriots suffered their first area loss in over a year falling on the road to Madison County 61-51.
Even though they lost, the Patriots are still in the driver's seat to host the area tournament.
DAR jumped out to a 22 to 5 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back cruising to an easy win over the neighbors from Jackson County. Peyton Eggleston and Zach Ayers scored 14 points each to lead the Patriots.
A miserable shooting night doomed the Patriots at Madison County last Friday. DAR defeated the Tigers handily last month in Grant, but suffered a disappointing loss Friday to drop to 1-1 in Class 4A Area 14. Madison County led 14-9 at the end of the opening quarter before the Patriots tied the game at 21 at the half. The two teams were deadlocked at 34 at the end of 3, but the Tigers outscored DAR by 10 over the final 8 minutes. Lathan Miles led the Patriots with 13 points followed by A.J. McCamey with 11. Madison County improved to 2-2 in area play. January is a big month for DAR with four area games remaining; two each with North Jackson and New Hope.
