The DAR varsity girls and boys basketball teams took a step back in time when they hosted the Fairview Aggies in the Doris Pike White gymnasium last Friday. Former DAR players, coaches, cheerleaders and other members of a rich basketball tradition were honored between games in the sixty year old facility. The Lady Patriots lost a hard fought contest 63-46 followed by a 72-63 win for the DAR varsity boys.
DAR 46, Fairview 63
The Fairview Lady Aggies came into the game undefeated, but the Lady Patriots had the upper hand for the first quarter and a half. DAR led 19-17 after the opening quarter, but Fairview broke a 27-27 tie in the 2nd quarter and finished the half with a 14-3 run to lead 41-30 at the break. The Aggies extended the lead to 55-38 at the end of 3. Lizzie Hammett led the Patriots with 14 points followed by Lauren Buchanan with 12. DAR fell to 5-3 on the season and will enter area play this week.
DAR 72, Fairview 63
In varsity boys action, DAR jumped out to a 25-16 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and led 37-28 at the half. When it looked like the Patriots might pull way, Fairview made a run and trimmed the DAR lead to 49-46 going to the 4th. The Patriots sealed the win at the free throw line in the final quarter to improve to 6-2 on the season. DAR placed four players in double figures with Noah Edmonds leading the way with 21 points. Trey Bolt was close behind with 18 followed by Lathan Miles with 12 and A.J. McCamey with 10. The Patriots have road area games at North Jackson and Madison County this week.
