Arab led much of the game, but Oxford kicked a field goal with just seconds left on the clock to hand the Knights their 2nd loss of the season last week.

It was a heartbreaker to be certain for a county team that has had a truly good season this year.

The tale of Arab’s woe was evident in the Prep Spotlight put out by the Alabama High School Athletic Assn. this week as two players from Oxford were named:

RAY BARRERA, OXFORD: Kicked a 37-yard field goal with eight seconds left to lift the Yellow Jackets to a 26-24 win over Arab in Class 6A, Region 7. Just 1:33 earlier, Oxford scored a touchdown on a 6-yard run by Jaydon Thomas to cut the the Knights’ lead to 24-23, but the try for two failed. After a failed onside kick, Oxford used all three of its timeouts and got the ball back at its own 20-yard line with 1:13 left and drove into field goal range in the final minute to set up Barrera’s winning kick.

SAMUEL ROBERTSON, OXFORD: Was 18-of-28 passing for 192 yards and one TD – and drove the Jackets from their own 20 to a game-winning field goal in the final 1:13 of the fourth quarter in a 245-23 win over Arab in Class 6A, Region 7.
