Hydrofest is this weekend and the Guntersville Police Department started their build-out Monday of the event venue on Sunset Drive near the Rec Center.

Chief Jim Peterson shared details of what’s led up to this weekend’s festivities, saying they have done six weeks of preparation bringing supplies and items from Conner’s Island and getting ready to start setting up.

Guntersville PD is working hard on getting the process done as early as possible. They began Monday morning at 6 a.m. and started build-out at 10 a.m., and they will be doing the same for the rest of the week. Hopes are that they will be finished by Thursday so that Friday will be more about enjoying the start of the exciting weekend and being available for anyone who may need them.

Major set-up will be in the works Wednesday afternoon, where you’ll likely see lots of the event being set up all down Sunset. The event is set into 3 zones from the Rec Center all the way down to the water treatment plant, and the big hot pit was noted by the Chief to be over in Warrenton at the Jaycees Boat Ramp. The races will be on Saturday and Sunday.

The second section of today's Gleam has all the pertinent details for this weekend's racing.
