Sarah Wright netted two goals against Douglas to help the Lady Wildcats win 4-1.

A two-goal night helped the Guntersville varsity girls’ soccer team past Douglas with a 4-1 win Tuesday night.

The Lady Wildcats hadn’t played a game since February 4 due to weather cancelations then due to COVID-19 protocols. Guntersville defeated Scottsboro to start the season 10-0 and are now 2-0 on the season.

Guntersville and Douglas went into the half tied at 1-1. In the second half, Wright scored two goals and Jennifer Jordan added one.

"The long layoff was evident for us but give Douglas a lot of credit," Guntersville coach Mike Jones said. "It's the best Douglas team that I think we've ever played. We looked a little bit slower to the ball then usual and we've still got young players figuring out their roles. I knew coming into the season it would take some trial and error to figure the team out but I'm confident we can."

The Lady Wildcats traveled to play Class 7A Auburn this weekend. They will be back home on Tuesday against Crossville.
