The Guntersville Lady Wildcats are getting ready to take the field as softball season is just about ready to get underway.
Guntersville was supposed to open the season this past Thursday against New Hope but wintery weather postponed the game. The Lady Wildcats will now open their season Tuesday at Douglas.
Guntersville softball head coach Capper Reed said she and the rest of the team are excited to get on the field following a long break due to COVID. She feels this team has the pieces to potentially have some success.
“We’re returning Addi Yarbrough and Brittany Slaton as pitchers,” Reed said. “Both of those girls have a lot of experience and I think they’re ready for a big year. It’s exciting to have two strong pitchers coming back this season.”
Several key players for Reed were still on the basketball court as of Thursday night. Olivia Vandergriff, Briley Hill and Ivey Marsh will all play significant roles on the softball team this season. The girls basketball team took on Carver-Birmingham Thursday night. With a win, they’ll play Monday at Jacksonville State University.
“Hitting from players one through nine should be strong for us this season,” Reed said. “We’ve been hitting it really well all off-season during practice. The girls are excited to get on the field and I am too. I think we have a chance to be pretty good this year.”
